It’s important to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. As you scrub, it’s best to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. To help you have a proper and effective brushing routine that can help you avoid dental issues, our dentist, Dr. Tom Pinnavaia, is happy to share some tooth brushing secrets with you.
First, brush your smile from the inside out. It’s easy to miss the plaque that lives near the tongue. This is why you should start your brushing routine there—just to make sure. So, clean the insides of the bottom teeth as well as the insides of the top teeth. Then, complete the smile-cleaning job by cleaning the outsides and then the rest of the teeth.
Second, brush with a dry toothbrush. This is recommended because dry bristles are more stiff, which makes them a little more effective at removing stubborn plaque and bacteria from your chompers. So, try not to run your brush under water before you put the toothbrush in your mouth. However, there is no need to worry if you forget to do so. Your brush gets wet after a minute or two in the mouth anyway.
Third, “dance” the toothbrush as you clean your smile. This means you should move your brush in circles and also add a little wiggle while you scrub. This will help you have a smooth, effective, and gentle brushing routine.
