If you would like to take care of your smile to the point that it is protected, one of the first things you need to do is guard your teeth against cavities. Cavities arise when holes in your tooth enamel are formed, typically by acid erosion.

Cavities are incredibly hazardous to your smile because they can form and arise at any time. If you are susceptible to cavities, it means that your tooth enamel is not strong enough for harmful acids that routinely tear it down. In order to keep your tooth enamel strong, it is important to make sure you’re practicing effective enamel building techniques and cleaning your mouth as necessary.

To help keep your enamel strong, always eat a healthy diet that is focused on enamel building substances such as calcium and phosphorus. This includes meats, cheeses, milk, and nuts. In addition, avoid overly sticky or chewy sweets that continually linger in your mouth. This is because the substances remain in your mouth for long periods of time, which increase the rate at which tooth decay occurs.

To help improve your cavity prevention care, always implement effective oral health care regimes on a daily basis. This includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and flossing at least once a day as well. Ideally, you should floss with a shred-resistant dental floss or with interdental cleaning utensils such as water flossers.
